The Revue
The Young Folk Revue is all grown up! After five years of music and mayhem, the talented musicians of the YFR bring a new show to the Flying Cloud stage.
Come join us at The Revue, a showcase of music and dance. With teeth-rattling tune sets and dynamic dancing, haunting harmonies and cheerful chanteys, The Revue is definitely not your average folk concert. Staying true to the YFR's guiding principle that music made together is music made better, The Revue is all about collaboration - the bigger, the better!
In addition to brand new musical combinations, The Revue will feature performances by some of the vibrant performing acts that have grown out of previous YFR musical mashups:
Members of Beneath the Ice Katie Avery, Helena Frecker, Adrian Rigopulos – ′Beneath the Ice′ is a new folk group pushing the boundaries of traditional music through their exciting and time-bending arrangements of both trad and original tunes.
The Blackest Crow A close-harmony duo of Emily Adam and Hannah Naiman singing traditional and original ballads with hauntingly beautiful accompaniment on banjo and cello. Hannah's original songs have been described as capturing the mood of 'the court of Elizabeth I - only they're better written!'
Hardcore Lazerhawk Mark Mayberry, Tim Pyron, Stefan Read – A new project based on an old collaboration, HLH sing exuberant three-part chanties and folk songs. HLH delights in applying unusual harmonies and arrangements to well-worn songs to create something at once familiar yet fresh.
Maple Morris www.maplemorris.ca Maple Morris is a unique Morris team made up of younger dancers from various corners of Canada, the US, and the UK. Since its founding in 2005, Maple Morris has gained a reputation for breathing new life and excitement into an aging tradition.
Once Removed Once Removed is a professional dance company whose focus is tradditional American and English dance. The repertoire is at times traditional, at times contemporary, and at times somewhere in between.
These acts will be joined on stage by some familiar faces and frequent collaborators from previous YFRs, performing songs and tunes from across the folk spectrum.
