A learner of Gaelic since the age of 17, Maeve Mackinnon studied Gaelic song at the RSAMD, graduating with Honours in 2004. She attended the pioneering Gaelic college "Sabhal Mor Ostaig" from 2005- 2006 and released her debut solo album "Don′t Sing Lovesongs" in 2007. The album, released on the Footstompin label and produced by multi-instrumentalists Duncan Lyall and Ali Hutton, interweaves Gaelic songs with songs from Scotland, Ireland and North America. "Don′t Sing Lovesongs" was met with widespread critical acclaim on its release, and came to the attention of Celtic Connections festival director Donald Shaw, who invited Mackinnon to perform a prestigious "Classic Albums" gig at Celtic Connections festival 2008. The gig, a double bill with fiddler Lauren MacColl, proved to be a sell-out and earned them a 5 star review from The Herald, describing Mackinnon′s band as excellent and surely destined for greatness. website : www.maevemackinnon.com |
